Beginner-friendly Ashtanga Vinyasa
In this class, we will start with a simple introduction to the three pillars of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice: breath, internal seals and gaze point. We will then explore a modified section of the Primary Series, the traditional Ashtanga sequence, working through forward folding, hip strengthening, spinal rotation and balance. We will play with variations to suit each Yogi’s individual needs. We will also get to cool down with Pranayama and a short Yoga Nidra meditation. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a traditional dynamic Yoga practice that flourished in the Indian town of Mysuru (formally Mysore). It combines vigorous movement and breath in a moving prayer aimed to strengthen and stabilise the physical body in preparation for meditation and Samadhi - equanimity. Through daily repetition of the same series, this practice can gift the modern Yogi with a sense of harmony and inner peace, and become one of the few constants in an ever-changing world.
